In the CD Player: The requiem for a dream theme song

Oh...sweet. If anyone hasn't read my guestbook go read it now. Wait, first read my posts from the 12th, then read my guestbook, then read the following.
Here it is..my anwsers to my home boy Mike Egan. I will attempt to anwser his comments one by one in a numbered format.

1) Why is taking a flag worse than the cases of Snapple that you took from a show?
Mike is right. Theft is theft and stealing is wrong. However, according to his dad who has been taking down McCormick place shows for many many years, what they would do with bottles of Snapple left over from a trade show is disputable. It is quite possible that it would be not worth the trouble and cost of shipping it all back to the company and putting it back into stock. Also, the snapple was there as samples at the show. It was all brought there to be given away. We just took a some of what was left over. The (what we found out was an 8X5) flag however was bought by the company and part of thier display. It traveled with them to different trade shows. It was never inteded to be given away. In the same way the computers and flatscreen moniters are not ment to be taken from the booths.

2) 3 - 12 packs and a few random bottles probably has an equal if not greater retail value than the flag.
I remember exatly how much I took. It was 2 12 packs and 12 random bottles. 45 bottles in all. I don't buy snapple so I don't know what this would have sold for. I don't know exactly how much a 5X8 flag sells for either. I do now that a smaller flag (3X5 I believe) retails for 25 bucks though. It is quite possible that the flag you took retails for over $50 bucks. BUT, the big diffrence is that the company you stole it from bought it from someone else, in other words they paid full price. The snapple on the other hand was taken from the company that makes it..ie it cost them much much less to make then they sell if for (illistration: A can of pop sells in a pop machine for 60-75 cents..they only cost the company about 6 cents a piece to make).

Wow..this is gonna be real long...

3) It's not as if I pulled it down off of a flag pole in front of a house or even a building at all. I can understand being upset if that were the case.
What is the difference? The flag was bought...does it matter where it was hanging?

4) Besides, I do remember a certain Dave Rauch about a year ago capitalizing off the situation. Buying flags, making several purchases to avoid the limits set by stores, and then marking up the price and selling the flags. While that may not be as bad, is it better?
I was expecting this. For those of you (both) reading this that don't know what he is talking about let me quick explain. After September 4 or 5 days after September 11th last year there was a flag shortage as everyone wanted one. Seeing the oppertunity I found a place that had a lot and bought a bunch. I then walked door to door and sold them at a marked up price. I would argue that there was nothing wrong with this for the following reasons.
- There was nothing illegal about it.
- No one had to buy them from me.
- The people that did all thanked me for selling to them. (Many were ready to pay much more than I was asking)
- I walked door to door. I think the extra 2 bucks is worth not having to go out, fight traffic, search for a place that isn't sold out...etc.
- The whole 2 day business imbraced the American spirit of capitalism and free trade.

5) Think about it.
No, you think about it.

OK. Haha..its all there. An internet fight between friends. Thanks for reading. I hope it wasn't as borring as the fights between Jason and Esther (although probably just as pointless).

I will blog for real later. Wait...I forgot, I was driving with Jon today and he ran over an animal that was already dead. Then said "YEAH". That rules.

In The CD Player: The Get Up Kids - Action and Action

So here's the deal. All week I have been trying to get to bed by 1:00. Sadly I haven't succeded yet. It has been around 2:00 everynight. Anyway, I logged on to Blogger purely to write about one thing. September 11th. Now, before you stop reading (jon) check this out.

Septermber 11th - A day that now brings out memories, sorrow, and most of all feelings of nationalism. So here is my beef..of all the things mike and his sticky hands could have STOLEN last night...he lifts a 6X4 foot American Flag. What the eff. Is nothing sacred? He said he didn't have one so he really wanted one for his room. As soon as we got outside of McCormick Place (we worked till 12:00AM) he starts offering to sell it for $25 bucks to people. I wouldn't be suprised if he would steal the baby Jesus out of a manger scene from a church. Probably..but he would wait till Christmas Day. They he would take it to the pawn shop.

Wait? Isn't mike my friend? Yeah, but I told him I didn't approve at all, and that it would make my blog. He is anxiously waiting to read it. (Word up Mike..F.U.)

OK..while we are on the subject of theft...I did steal one thing recently. When Mike and I went to see Rev. Peter Popoff we took these paper signs that were taped to the door. They were super cool. It was basically a disclaimer so you couldn't sue them if they broadcasted you on TV or if Mr. Popoff "layed hands" on you for prayer. Thats even more funny because when we were there he would say to people..and I quote: "Can I shake you?" Then he would grab their head and shake it while yelling "In Jesus Name!". It was funny...in a sacreligious kind of way. I think the guy is crap..so is his orinization "People United For Christ Inc.". Dosen't anyone wonder why he is a corporation and he wants you to send him money. Humm..

OK..I am out. See you all tonight at the show.

In The CD Player: Backdrop

OK..I have 12 min to blog my whole weekend. Lets get it on.

Thursday: Registered our new site at www.secondhandbicycle.net. Went to North Park and played cards. Came home late.

Friday: Slept for 5 or 6 hours and then got up for Mr. Wilkin's funeral. For those of you that don't know who he is, he was a teacher of mine. This guy was probably the coolest person over 50 I knew. He was pretty tight with my friend Dan. We had been over to his house a few times to eat and help him with stuff. I was supposed to have lunch with him sometime soon so I could meet with one of his friends that needed a website designed and hosted. Oh well. Anyway, the funeral was packed. I had to sit in another room and listen. There was no room to even stand in the back. It went for around 2 hours. A bunch of people got up and talked about he ment to them. I would be proud to have a funeral like that.

Friday Afternoon: Started uploading flies to the new site.

Friday Night: Got together with Jon and his friend Adam around 10:30 and we worked on getting the CD inside and label finished. We had problem after problem. Finally, after trips between houses and Kinkos I finally went to bed at 7:45 AM.

Saturday: Steve called and woke me up at 11. We were suppose to have practice before our two show. I got dressed and drove to Walmart and then Office Depot to get ink cartrages for the printer so we could print lables. Then I drove back to church for a quick practice. Then we loaded up and I drove way out to Kinkos on 22nd. I picked up the printing and drove back to Jon's house. The band was there and we quickly decided on the label choice we wanted and started printing and putting CD's together. Then it was off to the show. We played well I think. Well..much better than I had expected after not practicing for a month. Then we packed up, got some pizza and went to play Jennifer Mast's 18th B-day party. We were all pretty tired (Jon hadn't slept for 40 hours or so) but I think we did pretty well. We had to pull out some old songs we don't like playing in order to keep the party going. Oh well. Overall we had fun.

Sunday: Church in the morning. In the afternoon Mike and I went to Chicago to see the Rev. Peter Popoff. This guy is a televangilist and he was in town. WOW. I was laughing so hard. All this guy talks about is how God wants you to be rich and have everything you want (All your dreams will happen if you make a donation to him...hummm?). Anyway, it was funny cause counting mike and I, there were probably only 10 white people (not counting Reverand Popoff) there. I would say there was about 4-500 people too. The atmospher was a little like the church in the Blues Brothers. Overall...well worth the drive out there.

OK..sorry for such a shallow summary of things. I have been really busy this weekend. If you haven't already, go to the new SHB site and tell me how good it looks. I will love you forever.
