Job Update

Well, it's official. I start at Devry tomorrow morning. Those suckers are paying me a whole .50 cents more per hour than last time too. That means an extra $10 dollars per 20 hour work week. That's like 10 Junior Bacon Cheese Burgers (well really only 9 because of tax).

Dating Pointers

So, as most of you know, I am one of the last of my friends to enter into a dating relationship. Anyway, recently I have been receiving a whole bunch of "advice" and "pointers" from the seasoned romantics. I thought I should share some of them with you all. I won't say who said what though because I don't want to get anyone in trouble.

1) When it comes to gifts..start small so you can improve.
2) Watch out for loaded questions.
3) After a year it becomes like you are married...you just fight all the time.
4) Girls hate prude guys.
5) You should have waited till after all the holidays before you started dating..now you have get her stuff.
6) The best way to keep a girl happy is realize that "it's always your fault."
7) The key to keeping the upper hand is to apologize but never admit you were wrong.
8) Double standards exist..live with it.
9) "Yeah.......uh huh.........right........yeah..." will work during long phone conversations.

Well, that's all I remember right now. Anyway, while I am not committing to following these, thanks to everyone that has tried to help me out.

Devry Comes Crawling Back

Well, well, well, guess what company I am going to work for. Yep. Devry. They called me this afternoon and invited me back for a temporary position (6 to 8 weeks). I guess the document control department is probably far behind or something. So, it's not the most secure position but at least I will have an income again for a while. The best part though is that I will get to make my own schedule and stuff. That rules. I wonder if I will get my old desk back.

Tuesday Confession # 6

Well, as I said earlier, I was intending to use this opportunity to tell you all about Kristin. However, since that has already come out I have been trying to figure out something....
........
OK, this isn't really something bad, it's more of an embarrassing moment in hindsight. I would guess I was about 7 years old when I put on my first rock concert. I remember it was a summer evening at our old townhouse, probably around 7:00 or so. I had all the neighborhood kids come over (10 or so) and I turned our speakers from our living room so they faced out the window into the front yard. Then I played Crusin Classics Vol. 3 (an oldies tape you got from Shell with fill ups) and cranked up the volume. The only songs I remember on there are Johnny B. Good and Great Balls of Fire. Anyway, with the music going I basically just sang along or lip synched while doing my best to perform like a rockstar. I also remember running back into the house to change songs..so I may have switched tapes at some point.

Regardless, I don't remember too many more specifics except that I probably went pretty crazy trying to entertain people. The reason I know this is because I recall later talking to an "older" girl (maybe 10-12) that I had a crush on. I told her that the first show was more geared for the younger kids and she may want to come back for the mellower adult performance. The plan was to perform the slower songs for that show. It obviously never happened though. Humm..I feel pathetic just thinking about it.

Yeah, so that's it. It's now 12 years later, and not much has changed.

Music - Funk Master Tony's Power Hours on Bradley Student Radio

Well, I was gonna wait for tomorrow's confession for this, but Mike pointed out that I am only supposed to confess bad stuff. He has a good point. So I guess this is my official announcement to my blog buddies that I am no longer single. I'll save you the sappy details..but after a month of getting to know her better, I decided Kristin is the coolest girl I know. So, last night she and I decided to make it official. If you don't know who she is..I would recommend getting to know her. I am sure you will like her. Don't get any ideas though...she's taken.

Song: Softer to Me - Relient K

High Pressure Sales 101

So I was walking down Michigan Avenue last night with Kristin and this guy stops me. He offers a shoeshine. I declined and continued to walk on. He followed me and told me how the stuff he was going to use would protect the shoe and make them look good etc. I told him I would be replacing my shoes soon anyway, but as I was walking he quickly squirted the stuff on my right foot. Crap, he got me. "Come on, free sample" he says. "Put your foot up here." So I now have this white shoe crap on my right foot so I have no choice but to give in. As he is finishing I say "OK, what the heck, go ahead and finish the job." I think to myself I will give him a buck or two and then move on.

So he starts doing my other shoe and asks me my name and stuff. Then he quickly slides it in that the shine costs $6 and he is hoping for a big tip. Ooot. I was like "What happened to the free sample?" He says, "That was just for the first shoe." So I am like, "So you are trying to charge $6 for the left shoe?" Then he says, "OK, I'll tell you what. I will take one guess as to how many letters are in your last name. If I get it right then you pay double..if I am wrong it's free." Well, I may have been suckered into getting the shine but I wasn't going to fall for that. I think 5 letters is probably the most common. Anyway, if I agreed to that deal then I was agreeing to the initial price of $6 bucks. So I said no deal and told him I would give him $2 bucks. "He said how about 4?" I told him sorry but only 2 bucks. Then he coped a big 'ol attitude with me. For some reason though I still gave him the two bucks. If I wasn't in a good mood I probably would have just walked away at that point.

Then we continued down the street..and crossed to the other side for the return trip...hey, you can't be too careful.

So, the moral of the story is..when someone offers to shine your shoes your best bet is to run. Well, unless you want them shined...then accept.

In other news, Jay clarified that he was never calling my blog illegitimate; he was referring to The Jason Comment Book.

Song: Hannah Hold On - The Get Up Kids

"You only disappoint the ones who don't believe"

Just thought I would start leaving lyrics from the song I am listening to...everyone else does it.

Speaking of everyone else...I am not buying into the "what box are you in?" thing. I mean come on...do the preps really want to sleep with you gangsters out there? Who cares? Great..now I angered everyone that took the time to take the quiz and then link the result from their blog. Sorry guys.

Anyway, I am at U of I this weekend. Not to much going on here...I am just straight chilling with my friend Kevin. We watched One Hour Photo earlier (a downloaded bootleg version of course) and it was pretty good. Robin Williams plays a pretty good psycho. I was a little disappointed that the movie used theme songs from Requiem for a Dream and American Beauty though. What, they couldn't come up with their own music? Humm..I am much more of a movie snob then I used to be. Oh well, it's fun.

I think in a little bit we are going to take to the streets and make fun of drunks. So, this is it for now. I thought of a good Tuesday Confession for this week..so check back then. Until then however, sign my guest book and let me know how great you think I am. Right.....
